Lea Hutaff Island is an uninhabited barrier island and marsh system located just south of Topsail Island. The island is approximately 4 miles long and is a prominent nesting spot for loggerhead turtles, Least Terns, American Oystercatchers, Piping Plovers and Clapper Rails. Our tour begins with a 30-50 minute pedal (depending on wind and tide) where we will kayak through some of the prettiest blue waters of North Carolina. Once at the island paddlers will be given about an hour to relax, go for a swim, and explore the island by foot or continue on the kayaks through a beautiful marsh system on the back side of the island and then another 30-50 minute pedal back to the launch site. Tour times fluctuate depending on the wind and tides and we will contact you and let you know where and when the tour will begin. Included in the tour Hobie Mirage pedal-drive kayaks, lifevests, and a water bottle, dry bags are also available. Suggested items to bring with you are sunscreen, water shoes or flip flops, a ziplock bag (to keep your phone/keys dry) a snack, and any additional beverages you may want. All tours will include a brief discussion on kayak safety and how to operate your Hobie Mirage pedal-drive kayak. Topsail Surf & Cycle reserves the right to adjust the tour or reschedule depending on weather conditions so we ask that you remain flexible as safety will always be our number 1 priority. We also reserve the right to refuse the tour to anyone who is clearly intoxicated.

Serenity Point is the southernmost tip of Topsail Island which has beautiful undeveloped beaches, sandbars, and small islands with beaches to explore. Our tour of this area will include a 20-40 minute pedal on our Hobie Mirage pedal-drive kayaks to the end of the island where kayakers can get out and walk the beaches or take a dip in the beautiful crystal clear calm waters of the sound, we will then work our way back slowly and provide serval opportunities to stop at some of the surrounding sandbars and beaches on the small islands surrounding Topsail Island. . Included in the tour Hobie Mirage pedal-drive kayaks, life vests, and a water bottle, dry bags are also available. Suggested items to bring with you are sunscreen, water shoes or flip flops, a ziplock bag (to keep your phone/keys dry), a snack, and any additional beverages you may want. Our Southend Sunset tour is one you won’t soon forget. We will leave the kayak launch approximately 1 hour before sunset on our super stable Hobie Mirage pedal-drive kayaks. These kayaks offer unbelievable stability and are powered with your feet not your arms so you will be hands free to sit back and relax in the stadium style seat and take pictures or sip on a drink. We will kayak around the sound and depending on the tide you will have the option of stopping at one of the sandbars or just floating around the sound on your kayak while watching the sunset surrounded by the beautiful blue waters of the southend. . Included in the tour Hobie Mirage or lightweight and stable inflatable pedal-drive kayaks, lifevests, and a water bottle, dry bags are also available. Located on the south end of Topsail Island, this unique and beautiful area is ideal for all level kayakers, we use Hobie Mirage or the stable and lightweight inflatable pedal drive kayaks for our tours making kayaking easier than riding a bike. Just sit back with your hands free and explore the waterways faster than you ever could on a traditional kayak using your feet to propel the kayak and a rudder system that is operated simply moving a hand lever from right to left. The patented Hobie drive allows even beginners to kayak without worrying about the wind or current from the tides. We launch from different spots on the south end depending on conditions and the type of tour and we will contact you the day prior to confirm where you will meet us.
